Noosa Clever Networks Project

Next generation broadband and world-class Data Centre facilities coming soon!

Announcing

The Noosa Clever Networks Project was announced on Friday 14th September 2007 by the Minister for Trade, The Hon. Warren Truss at Cooroy in the Noosa Shire.

The Australian Government & Noosa Council

As part of its Connect Australia package, the Federal Government has announced Noosa Council's successful $1.2m bid for its Noosa Clever Networks Project to deliver high speed, low cost broadband to the Sunshine Coast region and to establish a Data Centre in Cooroy.

Noosa Council Business and Corporate Services Committee Chair, Cr Lew Brennan, said the Noosa Shire and broader Sunshine Coast region was identified as an underserved broadband area and recognised the region's potential for major economic growth with the right infrastructure.

"Today's announcement by the Federal Government will enable Noosa Council, in partnership with Allegro Networks and Mach Technology, to take Noosa to the next step in supporting knowledge based industries in the region through high speed broadband and support services", Cr Brennan said.

Mach Technology

"The Project includes two elements which will be delivered by network carrier partner Allegro Networks and Information Communications Technology (ICT) partner Mach Technology", said Noosa Clever Networks Partner Paul Pettigrew, Managing Director of Mach Technology.

"Allegro Networks will oversee the rollout of fibre optic and WiMAX networks which will be connected to existing fibre optic trunks to Brisbane via the rail line and Mach Technology will construct and operate a Data Centre at the site of the Old Butter Factory in Cooroy which will house new business applications and services for the entire Sunshine Coast Region", Mr Pettigrew said.

The Data Centre will be fitted out with and house high performance servers and core network devices that allow connectivity of up to 10Gbps (Gigabits per second) - thousands of times faster than typical (e.g. ADSL) broadband connection speeds - the type of technology capability that is usually available only to large businesses with significant budgets will now be affordable and delivered locally to small-medium sized businesses on the Sunshine Coast.

The Data Centre will be supported by multiple redundancy levels for electricity and network connectivity and advanced fire detection and suppression systems to ensure businesses can host their server applications locally and stay online 24/7.

Allegro Networks

Complementing the Data Centre and its hosting capability, Noosa Council and its carrier network partner Allegro Networks will provide businesses with true next generation technology including up to 40Mbps services according to Joint Managing Director of Allegro Networks, David Waldie.

"The Clever Networks Project will provide customers with business grade broadband using next generation WiMAX technology enabling hi speed connectivity for internet, voice, data and other applications" Mr Waldie said.

"We'll also be hooking up fibre optic cable connections to the newly planned Library at Cooroy and the planned Carpenters Lane and Nandroya developments.

"Once established, this will truly be a next generation network and because it is wireless and fibre optic, it does not rely on outdated copper telephone infrastructure".
